HOW IT ENDED UP
The events that became known online as ReceptioGate began in late 2022 with plagiarism allegations circulated through blogs, social media, and online articles. Over the following years, the case evolved far beyond those initial claims.
Between 2023 and 2026, numerous academic publications, institutional statements, archival discoveries, and legal proceedings substantially expanded the documentary record. Research concerning manuscript dismemberment, the circulation of stolen manuscript leaves, and the Turin manuscript MS E.V.5 continued uninterrupted and resulted in new publications, public lectures, and international collaborations.
A significant legal milestone was reached on 7 January 2026, when the Swiss Federal Administrative Court brought to a close the proceedings concerning The Book of Hours of Louis de Roucy. The Court annulled the withdrawal by the Swiss National Science Foundation of the research grant relating to that publication, bringing those proceedings to an end.
During 2026, additional documentation concerning the history of ReceptioGate was assembled and published. The investigation by Jordi Puig reconstructed the chronology of the affair from the first online accusations to later developments connected with manuscript provenance research and the international antiquarian market.
At the same time, new research focused on the three illuminated folios removed in 1979 from Turin MS E.V.5, later offered for sale through Sotheby's. The history of those leaves, their recovery, and the broader questions concerning manuscript dismemberment became central to subsequent scholarly publications.
Rather than disappearing, the documentary record continued to grow.
Today, readers can consult court decisions, academic publications, institutional communications, archival documentation, conference papers, and public databases that together provide a far more complete picture than was available when the first online allegations appeared in 2022 and 2023.
